BarCamp Nashville Recap

Posted by Chip

Here are the highlights from my presentation last Saturday at BarCamp Nashville.

The Conversion Funnel is a tool that can help you understand the following:

  1. How can I break down my visitors site behaviors.
  2. How can I understand all of the steps of my website's success metric – sale, lead or registration.
  3. Understand that what you think you know about how your visitors interact with your site is unimportant.
  4. Understand that online marketing and website usability are now sciences – they're not an art.

What are the goals of the Conversion Funnel?

  1. Break down your conversion process to determine where the opportunities for success are within your website.
  2. Understand why your site visitors don’t continue to the next step.

What does the Conversion Funnel look like?

Better Landing Pages – Better Conversions

Posted by Chip

Here's a great video case study from the people at Future Now and their excellent Blog - GrokDotCom.

Simply put, make sure that the URL's associated with your AdWords match up to create a streamlined user experience for those searching out your products and services. If you're using specific keywords for specific products - use a specific URL that either lands on that product or that product's category.

I’m a Bag Freak

REI hitchhiker backpackI admit it - I love backpacks, computer bags and luggage. I own them in all shapes and sizes and rarely get rid of them. You'd have to see my attic. Recently I picked up a new backpack at REI (a really dangerous place for me to go).

The REI Hitchhiker backpack is about as close to perfect as a travel/carry-on back pack as you're going to find. I love pockets and attachment points for tucking things away and stowing extras that I need quick access to.

But, this pack has something that I haven't seen on a backpack - an expansion zipper that gives you an extra 350 cubic inches of space. This is the kind of thing you need for your trip back to home and a great design idea. Another thing that I really like is the compression panel in the main compartment for keeping stuff in the place that you want it to be.

And, oh by the way, I'm a gear nut too - more on that later.
