Rekindling an Old Friendship
I went to see my old friend Tall Paul last night. I had forgotten his unique take on Lyle Lovett's classic, "If I Had a Boat" - or more affectionately known as "The Boat Song". Enjoy...
Singing Drummers – Now That is Talent
I play guitar and, on occasion, sing along while I'm playing. It took me a while to learn how to do something like that - especially playing in time.
In being able to do something like this, you have to be able to move both hands independently of one another. You also have to sing. And, then you have to think about what you're playing and what you're singing - at the same time.

Now I have absolutely no idea how drummers sing while they're playing. You have all 4 appendages moving at different times and then you're trying to flap your gums while doing all of that! These musicians are truly amazing. Next time you see one doing this, take a little extra time and admire what you're seeing.
Things to Do Before I Die
Life is too short. Try something new or set a goal and go for it.
I have been compiling this list for a while now. It is ever-growing. I have accomplished some of them and there are many yet to be accomplished things. I keep this in my Blackberry so when the mood strikes - I can add a new thing to the list. Here it goes:
- Spend New Year's Eve on Jost Van Dyke, BVI
- Swim with dolphins (again)
- Swim with Whale(s)
- Ride in a hot air balloon (done 4/28/07)
- Learn to sail
- Collect sand from all of the beaches we visit
- Rope a calf (done)
- SCUBA dive (I have about 50 dives in my log, but there are many more oceans to explore)
- Play Augusta National
- Own a boat - preferably with a lake house
- Catch a bonefish on a fly
- Learn to surf
- Play guitar with Eric Clapton or John Mayer
- Attend Rock-n-Roll Fantasy Camp
A Good Guy (Even Though He is a Gator)
My wife and I were at lunch today and SEC football previews were running on the TV. The Florida Gator preview came up and she reminded me about the time in the spring of this year when my step-son, Tommy, had his picture taken with Urban Meyer.
The family was down in Gainesville (I was absent, on a work trip). They were visiting some family and GrandPoppy wanted to show Tommy and my other son "The Swamp". So, they went to look around and took some pictures. Well, GrandPoppy had to take my little one for a potty break when out of the blue Coach Meyer came out and started running stairs in the stadium.
He ended up stopping right near my wife and Tommy and she asked if he would take a quick picture with Tommy (who happened to be wearing his University of Tennessee t-shirt).

As you can see, Coach Meyer at the last minute covered up the UT logo and was a great sport about it.
