What’s Your Soundtrack

Posted by Chip

I was sitting at a pool party over the weekend with some friends. The host's virtual jukebox was on the fritz and we began teasing him that he needed to pullout the boom box and get his mix tape from '86 out of the glovebox. It got me thinking about those old mix tapes and I went down this "track". I got to think about my life as a movie and then talked about having to put the soundtrack to my life together - at least up until this point. So...here's the question:

If you had to put together a 12-track soundtrack to your life, what tracks would you include?

Track 1: "Rhinestone Cowboy" - Glen Campbell, Rhinestone Cowboy
Track 2: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" - U2, Joshua Tree
Track 3: "Losing My Religion" - R.E.M., Out of Time
Track 4: "Rocky Mountain High" - John Denver, Rocky Mountain High
Track 5: "Redemption Song" - Bob Marley, Legend
Track 6: "Easy" - The Commodores, All the Greatest Hits
Track 7: "Floridays" - Jimmy Buffett, Floridays
Track 8: "Crossroads" - Cream, Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 2005
Track 9: "This Time of Year" - Better Than Ezra, Deluxe
Track 10: "Wrapped Around Your Finger" - The Police, Synchronicity
Track 11: "In Repair" - John Mayer, Continuum
Track 12: "Alive" - Pearl Jam, Ten
Track 13: "If I Had a Boat" - Lyle Lovett, Pontiac
Bonus Track: "I'm Your Guitar/Guitar Man" - Jerry Reed, Live at the Exit/In

This is a really interesting exercise and one that makes you really think about your life and who you are. Try it...

The Infamous Sophomore Slump

Posted by Chip

Maroon 5I'm an avid music fan and have seen so many bands and artists fail on their second album. I can't imaging how tough it is to get something together to follow-up a smash album. I mean think about Hootie's "Cracked Rear View" - they never got it back.

This new Maroon 5 album, however, doesn't seem to be an album that's going to fall into that category. They've been able to capture the essence of their sound from their first record and build upon it with this new album. Give it a listen and I think you'll be impressed.

Sunday in the Kiddie Pool

Posted by Chip

Kiddie PoolIt's amazing how perspective changes when you actually step in a kiddie pool. Do it sometime - especially if you have kids. You get a chance to get down on their level and see the world at their height for a while. I spent 4 hours in the kiddie pool in the backyard with my son yesterday and we had a ball. Now I remember why splashing my Dad was so fun.

Another thing you should do is give your kids one of those disposable cameras one day and then go have it developed. You wanna talk about perspective! Then you'll really jog the memory and remember when you thought your parents were giants!
